Sustainable
regional development.
The organisation
Save Middles has been founded. The purpose of founding this organisation
is to secure the present conditions for windsurfing, kite surfing and
surfing and through this participate in the process of creating a
sutainable regional development in the area east of the Roshage Pier,
Hanstholm.
The founding of this organisation is a
natural consequence of the plans recently developed by the Hanstholm City
Council (Hanstholm Kommune) and Viborg County (Viborg Amt). These
authorities are intending the completion of the regional plan amendment
number 8. Giant wind mills, coast protection and aqua culture farming at
Hanstholm Harbour.
In the introduction of the amendment
the project is described as follows:
“Hanstholm Harbour and Energy Centre
North wish to create a new land area on and close to the existing beach
northeast of Hanstholm Harbour. This area will be approximately 1100
metres long and stretch 130 metres out to sea and will be protected
against erosion by a stone pier. Behind this new coast protection, five
150 metre high windmills will be erected and the remaining land retrieved
will be used for establishing an inland sea farming project.”
If this project is realized as in its
presently intended form, the consequence will be that not only the City of
Hanstholm but Denmark in general will loose an extraordinarily valuable
natural resource with many possibilities for the future. This is NOT
sustainable development.
This exact spot is one of Europe’s
finest wave sailing locations when it comes to windsurfing, kite surfing
or surfing.
This is why so many people not only
from the local community or Denmark but from all over Europe and the rest
of the world have a heartfelt & keen interest in maintaining and
preserving the extraordinarily superb conditions of this coastal
area.
Industrial development and
sutainable regional development
We are agreeable to industrial
development, in the Hanstholm Harbour area also. We are also pro wind
energy and other environment friendly energy sources. We also support
coastal protection when and where it is necessary for enabling development
or protecting valuable coastal property.
This is why the Save Middles
Organisation cooperates with the DIF Danish Athletics Organisation, the DSF Danish Sailors
Association, the IFCA International Funboard Association, the PWA
Professional Windsurfer Association, the DBO Danish Board Sailors Association and the local wind
surfing association NASA North Atlantic Surf Association to present an
alternative solution which favours as well the commercial development at
the Hanstholm Harbour as well as the conditions for the windsurfing and
kitesurfing and surfing sports.
The purpose of this alternative
solution is to create a situation containing optimal conditions for
economic growth for all trades in the area. As well for the fishermen as
for all the tourism related branches while paralel considerations are made
for recreative meassurements and sports in the area. This is sustainable
development.
Along with other persons or
organisations who have an interest of obtaining a solution as this we are
inviting the authorities of The Hanstholm Harbour and the City of
Hanstholm and The Viborg County for what we hope will be a constructive
cooperation to the benefit for all parties.
